FAQs
There are no silly questions. Here are some common questions that come up when someone is looking for a therapist:
Q. How do I choose a therapist?
A. I'm happy to speak with you to find out if I'd be a good match for the issues you need help with. The most important factor in getting the most out of therapy is having a good rapport and comfort level with your therapist.
Q. How long will I be in therapy?
A. Every person has different issues that bring them to therapy. Initially appointments may be more frequent and then we'd discuss how often we will meet based on a person's progress and needs.
Q. What type of clients do you work with?
A. My practice specializes in Individual Therapy for adults ages 21 and older. I do not work with children or adolescents and I do not see couples.
Q. What is expected of me during therapy?
A. To get the most benefit from therapy, it helps to identify your own goals for treatment, to actively participate in sessions and to follow any recommended "homework" in between sessions.
Q. What? You give homework?
A. The real change happens outside of therapy when you begin to think differently and practice what you are learning in between sessions. Depending on your situation, I might provide instruction on relaxation techniques or anxiety management skills. Other types of therapy, such as CBT involve use of handouts.
Q. I see you do not take my health insurance. Do you offer a Sliding Scale for private pay clients?
A. Unfortunately, I do not adjust my private pay fees.
